ICE CREAM TRUCK VALENTINE’S CARD

ICE CREAM TRUCK VALENTINE’S CARD

I had been wanting to use this Avery Elle stamp set called The Scoop for quite some time now. This was the perfect opportunity to make the shakers I had imagined! I ended up making 20 of these cards for my daughter’s preschool teachers, family, and friends.

I started by stamping the ice cream truck and the sentiment “You are so sweet” from Avery Elle’s The Scoop set onto 80 lb Neenah Solar White cardstock using Simon Says Stamp’s Intense Black ink. Since I decided to turn this into a little shaker card using some pink sequins I had in my stash, I attached a small rectangle of transparency sheet behind the window with scor-tape and used 3M foam tape to build up the space for the sequins. I quickly (and roughly) blended some picked raspberry Distress ink onto a piece of 70 lb Neenah Solar White text paper so that I could cut out rectangles to place behind my shaker bits and add a little bit of extra color. I used the thinner text weight paper so it wouldn’t add much bulk.

I colored the ice cream truck with Spectrum Noir markers, using the following colors:

  • Hat, shirt: TB2, TB3
  • Face: FS1
  • Tires: IG2, PL1, BT4
  • Truck top, bottom: BT5
  • Canopy: BT3, PL1
  • Headlight: LY2

I used the Avery Elle Burst die to cut Bazzill Candy Necklace cardstock into squares that would go behind the truck. By already closing off the shaker area, it allowed me to place the ice cream truck down onto the square piece rather than trying to center it from behind. I’ve found this method helps me line up my images, when the shaker is on a layered card design like this one. The ice cream truck was adhered using the remaining exposed foam tape as well as scor-tape over the text paper backing. I then attached these layers to A2 side fold card bases made from 110 lb Neenah Solar White cardstock using my ATG.

For the banner, I cut some Poptone Razzleberry cardstock from my stash using Lawn Fawn’s Sentiment Banner dies. I prepped the cardstock with my EK Success powder tool and stamped the “Happy Valentine’s Day” sentiment from Simon Says Stamp’s Hello Beautiful set in Versamark ink towards the left of the banner edge. I originally wanted to see how the Versamark ink would leave a watermark effect, but it wasn’t dark enough. So I prepped the banner again and re-stamped with the Versamark ink. I tried the Hero Arts white satin pearl embossing powder this time, and although it gave it a nice dimensional shimmer, it still didn’t have the contrast I was hoping for.

For the rest of the banners I used white embossing powder from Hero Arts and, holding the banners with my EK Success craft tweezers, I melted the powder with my heat gun. I then ran the banners through my Big Shot again with the same banner die to cut off the extra cardstock and make a shorter banner length. The banners were attached using 3M foam tape for dimension.
